Hiya Peeps
looking at the line stats below, what do you reckon my best possible line speed will be.
bt site says adsl max 1-2.5 meg
Noise Margin: 31.0 dB 30.0 dB
Attenuation: 62.6 dB 30.5 dB
Output Power: 13.3 dBm 10.4 dBm

What speed/sync rate is the router connecting to the exchange at with those line stats?

"Noise Margin: 31.0 dB"
UGHH ?

"Noise Margin: 31.0 dB"
UGHH ? On 62.6dB attenuation, and 13.3 dBm power....
Looks like new router time?

Those statistics are physically impossible. The router is misreporting and might be faulty
Based on the fact that the noise margin is over 30 on a 62 db line and getting 2 meg sync. Impossible
If the noise margin was 6 it would be more believable
The attentuation might be misreporting though! If the attenuation was low the noise margin would be fine
So based on the stats given I can't predict anything as they are misreported
EDIT: the output powers incorrect too

Router is a brand new unused bt business hub 2700..
its connecting at 128 down 64 up....
|
|
|
|
Ill try a home hub that i have when i get home and see if its any different...
|
|
|
|
I read your first post incorrectly... Read it as though if was 2 meg sync when that's what the BT site predicts
Anyway that output power seems wrong
BT homehub stats would really help!
If that noise margin really is 30db something's really fishy!

"Noise Margin: 31.0 dB"
UGHH ? Shouldn't that be 'Pardon?'

these are the stats from my home hub..
connecting at 128 down 64 up
Noise margin (Down/Up) 28.2 dB / 27.0 dB
Line attenuation (Down/Up) 63.0 dB / 31.5 dB
Output power (Down/Up) 12.2 dBm / 9.9 dBm

I would guess you have some fairly significant burst of noise which knocks your speed back and thus a high SNR.
Get a copy of Router Stats Lite (free) and run it for 24 hours with 1 minute or 30 second updates for SNR and sync. Host those somewhere and provide links to them.

Clever idea! I was going to suggest manually watching it - silly me!

But first reboot the router!

He has effectively done that by changing the router.
