It partly depends how much you want to spend, and also how long you expect to be at the same flat.
I can't say I'm a fan of having the phone line and broadband bundled together. It normally means you are tied in more than you are by having them separate.
Ignoring that, on that exchange you can get Be. That is technically the same as, slightly more flexible in fact than, the old O2 packages your parents are on. That would be my choice, with the line from BT on an 18-month contract costing only £30 installation. You need to make 10 calls per month I think, but those can be within the included freebies. So you could make dummy calls to your parents, (or anywhere else), one after another, once a month.
Others to look at for the line are the Post Office and Be. The trouble with Be is that if you migrate out you have to change line provider as well, and that gets messy. Hence what I said at the start.
You could get both from Plusnet, but you would need the "Pro" "Boost". That prioritises gaming and also solves the traffic management, which is set out on this page.
What didn't you like about Sky? For the broadband side it is next best to Be.

They do throttle P2P. Be is the best large provider in my opinion. If not Be then get Sky.
|
|
|
|
That is correct
|
|
|
|
they DO NOT
|
|
|
Check out the TT forum for users' views on TT BB
Some suggest that P2P is throttled.
|
|

They do. I don't want a debate over it, just giving some friendly advice.

do plusnet use tiscali llu for there broadband? As has been said, no. They stopped using it years ago. In fact Tiscali no longer exists - TalkTalk bought it last year, and all customers have been transferred.
As has also been said, you don't have to take Sky line rental or calls, nor do you have to have their TV. But how much 0845 calling do you do? Is it so important?
Anyway, my ranking for best product:- first, line rental with BT with Be Unlimited broadband - but you say too expensive; second Sky Unlimited; third Plusnet Extra with Pro option. The Plusnet one should be perfectly OK, there's nothing wrong with being third in a list of over a hundred, so if it fits your cost needs and you feel comfortable with it, go for it. It's only a monthly contract anyway if you pay the startup cost. The others are 12 months, or 18 for TT.
TalkTalk are wayyyyyyyyyyyy below those for your requirements.

Well i personally would not choose either of them, both imo are rubbish here is the details for rochdale exchange lcroc there 's what is available to you i note that fttc will be available in your area early next year, so something to consider before getting into a 12ths or even worse still 18mths contract (talktalk) bt do an anytime calling plan 0800 0845 free inc

How many Anonymous posters are there in this thread? One seems to like TT, you seem not to. Why the heck people don't register so we can at least agree or disagree with them in a sensible way defeats me.
Anonymous posts are pretty well useless as they tend to be opinionated and often wrong.
In this case the 0845 free calls on BT call plans, which are compulsory and included in the charges, have usage requirements, as I pointed out to the OP earlier. 0800 is free on all CPs, period!

i dont know much about plusnet other than there from yorkshire XD
the big killer i have against plus net is its owned by BT who cant seem to get much right from the looks of there fibre roll out
other than that there both great companys just like SKY and BE
(ps i dont use full stops because its way over the other side of the keyboard and i cant be bother)

You can't spell either so with no punctuation it is pretty pointless trying to read it............. next

For p2p sky,BE or plusnet with there pro add-on.
BE*Unlimited

So where TalkTalk say on this page about their traffic management that they slow down P2P on TalkTalk Plus, it is wrong?
Perhaps you don't use P2P much?

Have you used the ThinkBroaband "COMPARE Broadband" tool?
Of the three ISPs you are considering one come out on top in
every category and every month.
|
|

Well when i was on talktalks Plus package i got roughly 20KB/s any time day or night.

Also check the Broadband Map link on this site by putting in your postcode.
This may give you local oddities.

Are you saying that to support the argument there is traffic shaping or that there isn't?
160Kb/s is hardly quick unless that is as fast as your line goes so I am assuming you are saying that they are traffic shaping?
|
|
|
Which is fine until you add Be.
I suggest the Sky one is dragged down a fair bit by the bad reports they will be getting for Sky Connect.
Plusnet does seem to be the best compromise in this instance.

My line at the time supported roughly
1500KB/s
so yes i would say it was traffic managed but
nothing else(streaming, direct FTP ect) was from what i can remember.

Make sure you compare like with like and price with price.
I note you have compared TalkTalk Business - not TalkTalk with Sky and PlusNet.
In this case I doubt your decision will change, but I point this out to help others
using the great ThinkBroadband "Compare Broadband" tool for the first time.

 .
Sorry, the TT Business was accidental. New version with both.
You are right about price being a factor of course. I put all that in my recommendations to the OP, bearing in mind all that he had said.

Hmmmm? Then I don't suppose other people here will "bother" reading your post as it's too difficult to understand: probably won't bother helping/replying, either.

I would not believe a word Plusnet says. They quote me 17mb also and I am on a Market one 8mb exchange. Judging from the reply I received from Plusnet this morning, they seem barely literate.
Quote thank you for contacting plus net, i do understand where you coming from and i do polgise but the max broadband usgae we offer is 60GB and we can not change it.
