how do you calculate satellite bandwidth

I stumbled upon an article but I don't know if it's actually reliable. I'm a bit of a satellite noob and I'm trying to get as much info as possible before I try and get satellite broadband (I live in the Kimberley region so it's pretty much the outback for me).

I don't know if I can link the article though. So if you have any tips (basic things) when it comes to satellite broadband and how I calculate satellite bandwidth, tell me. Thanks!
