hi there
on the THOMSON ST585 v6 SPEEDTOUCH is the nat setting open by default the reason i ask is a do a bit of xbox 360 online.?
i currently have a netgear dg834g v3 , the problem i have is at night time the snr drop to betwenn 0 and 2db which can cause a drop in sync, in the day its between 6 - 9 db
i have read on the that the THOMSON ST585 v6 SPEEDTOUCH may be better at holding on to the snr better .
many thanks

NAT by definition will always block unsolicited incoming packets, only if you add a rule passing packets to a particular LAN IP address will it be open.
I think your question, is whether the speedtouch has any firewall options that would block XBox live from working, and none that I am aware of.

my netgear nat is open (confirmed by network test and such games as fifa 11 says open)
and i can play online fine and join voice chats with my friend and get on to servesr fine such as EA .
i have had other router come up as strict or moderate (when doing xbox 360 network test)
my xbox works ok but harder to join rooms online and connect to EA servers etc..
hence my query , many thanks

This will be down most likely to how UPnP works on different devices, with UPnP the Xbox can request ports that it requires open.

Thomsons can be a problem sometimes, are we talking Xbox NAT here? Is it an o2 router (rebadged) or an actual ST585
|
|
|
Yes and needs to be enabled for the router to provide Open mode
Some people appear to have reported oddities in different firmwares, and xbox reporting varying modes at varying times.
