My T-Link router has obviously been on its last legs for a couple of weeks but chose not tell me how sick it was until yesterday. A BT router has also let me down. I can hardly believe it.
I'm left with one lonely ZyXEL.
I've ordered a Billion BiPAC 7800N. I'm ADSL2+ living in hope of FTTC before 2015. Most people eem hapy wilth Billion but there's always an element of doubt when you've opened a box and found a dead Netgear. Have I made a good choice for 2012?

Sob... you've ruined my Xmas
Lucky you... there isn't a date in sight for my exchange. Enjoy

Well you say that but I'm waiting for SKY to announce a FTTC product.

I got one based on a recommendation here when my Netgear was failing, and also after reading lots of good reviews.
Only been using it since 12th, and just today, the ISP tells me it's like looking at a different line! Totally steady ever since apart from one short disconnect during the first 30 hours.
I'm considering upgrading to FTTC after Christmas, so the router is ready for that if needed!

I''m really disappointed in the Billion router after so much hype. It syncs a meg lower than my ZyXEL. All I can say is that it's a decent "spare" router until such time as FTTC comes to my exchange and that's probably 2-3 years down the line.
SNR is 6 dB on ZyXEL and 6.3 dB on Billion. (My downsream margin is hard capped at 6dB) Downstream line attenuation is measured at 22 dB by the ZyXEL router and 23 dB by the Billion.
I have an ADSL2+ connection. My router (any router) is plugged into a filtered faceplate on the master socket.
Any explanation as to why sync and therefore download speed should be so different?

You'll hopefully be one of the first to get it

Do you have the ADSL mode set to 'ADSL2+'?
Have you got 'Annex L' ticked?
I'm getting a 6686 kbps sync from mine with a 48db attenuation.
I've found my Billion to give about a 500 kbps higher sync than my Netgear DGN2000 on the default SNR.
It's gone on to push my speed up higher than my Netgear ever could.

In short, YES! Hapyy Xmas

I too am a little bit disappointed with the Billion 7800 (wired). I have a good sync of 19.5 mbps but throughput is not as good as my old speedtouch. Downloads every now and again stall for a second or two and this affects throughput. I can connect my speedtouch to the EWAN port on the Billion and everything is fine but it's a rather expensive switch if the Billion modem is duff.
Aussies used to have a similar problem with the 7800N but they reckon new firmware has helped things. So here's hoping. What are your current Stats ARD.

Just to add. I have the DGN2000. It syncs 1.5 mbps less than my DG834Gv3 on the same line and 1.6 mbps less than the sky sagem N router. It also increases my line attentuation by 3db. I had it swapped as I thought it was faulty. Did the same both times. I need to sell it, it's just sat in a cupboard
Luckily it can be tweaked downwards (the SNR) with custom firmware & it holds as low as 1.5 db SNR.
Try something else - I think you will be very surprised.
Anyway merry christmas.

H I'll have to bet to you with the stats after Xmas. The turkey and ducks are calling me to the kitchen. Throughput is good for the sych but I prefer my ZyXEL. Enjoy today

It's amazing how different routers perform on different lines. Due to BT issues, this is the 4th new router this year. I don't think there's be a 5th just yet...
Thanks for your input and happy Christmas!
