what limits my download speed laptop vs netbook

Hi, my laptop always gets faster download speeds than my netbook. Why is this? Laptop has a plug in wireless adapter, netbook has a built in one. With Virgin soon to double my speed i want to know how i can get the best on my netbook. Is it something to do with the network adapter and how do i check this and can they be replaced/improved

1. Use Ethernet
2. If not that ensure the computer supports 802.11n
3. The limit is around 20Mbps if you use 802.11g
4. If XP on a PC then the RWIN may need tweaking
5. Some netbooks may struggle to go very very fast depending on what you are doing at the same time.

As Andrew's said, you have to check which wireless standards that your netbook is currently being used to be connected to your modem, i.e whether is connected at "g", "n" or even "b", which is the slowest at present. As a matter of back compatibility, your wireless router may be able to use "b", "g" or "n". If it is already using the "g" or "n" already, try to improve the wireless reception of your netbook or try the wired ethernet connection instead.

Using my modern laptop i can speedtest at my known full rate, if i use my netbook i also get a low reading.

Both using wireless "G".

It is just the CPU that is too slow to use a java speedtest.

If you download thinkbradband test download files here you MAY get a better indicaton of true throughput.
