Can you have 2 ISPs at once?

I have Virgin FTTC at the moment but by the time we disconnect form Virgin I'll be in France so is it possible to get O2 ADSL2+ broadband before we disconnect? If that requires two phone lines, is that possible

The VM service is provided through their own network of Fibre and Coaxial cable.
BT Wholesale service are provided through a different network.

If I understand you correctly your switching from VM to O2.

This will require a new phone line to be installed by BT (unless you have an old disconnected line already installed). I would advise that you get the ball rolling by placing your order with O2 otherwise you could be waiting upto 21 days!

Correct except that the phone doesn't need to be from O2. In fact I advise against that, as a move away from O2 means you have to move the phone as well.

For many people the Post Office phone service is ideal.

The o2 broadband will come in on a brand new phone line.

Virgin cable services have nothing to do with the phone lines used for ADSL and ADSL2+ broadband. Totally different network.

But you also used an unusual way of describing your Virgin service. You said FTTC, which technically it is, but no-one ever calls it that. So jsut to confirm, you do mean VM Cable? Not VM ADSL2+?

On VM Cable the only ISP you can have is VM.

You were told that for anything except Virgin Cable you would need a landline installed. You can order broadband from nearly any ISP in the country to run on that.

Because the two are on separate lines you can obviously have both services running.

O2 can supply just broadband, or a phone and broadband bundle like you have with VM. My warning was that if you took a bundle and you later wanted to move the ADSL2+ to another ISP you would need to move the rental of that new line to another company. (You wouldn't need another new line). If you get the new line from somewhare like the Post Office or BT Retail that becomes far less likely, and you can still have your O2 broadband on it.
