BT multicast services

I just checked someones postcode on the BTW checker. I haven't seen this before:-

Furthermore your exchange has been enabled for multicast services, please contact your provider for further details.

The December spreadsheets show FTTP. Samknows shows FTTC status 1 March, (maybe they need to change that to FTTx), the BTW checker only gives ADSLx and the above. No mention of fibre or speeds.

Edit - Just checked my own postcode. That doesn't give anything about fibre either, whereas the phone number does. As does the address.

It's going to be because it doesn't show anything for postcode enquiries, see my edit . I'll tell the poster to check it himself with the phone number.

postcode checker used to give FTTC speed estimates ahead of deployment, which was quite handy when the number checker just said no. It doesn't currently for places it used to, but they've been enabled since which may be why.

I'm not sure what you are saying there . Mine is enabled and it doesn't show, the poster's isn't enabled.

But this is all incidental really. The Subject is the multicast aspect and what the postcode checker says about that.

Have you seen that before? It's new to me.

haven't seen multicast, no. Is that the Content Delivery Network option ?

I was speculating that the postcode checker may switch from showing FTTC to not showing it when the service is enabled on the cabs and comes up on the number & address checker. Or the checker may just be broken in that respect.

I assume so. As I understand it, multi-casting is the underlying technology for that.

The live date for the FTTP one is 12 March. Awaiting his response re what the BTW checker shows for his number.
