Strange Sync for Line

Hi There,
My line is about 1000meters away from the exchange and i sync at
ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 8128 kbps 448 kbps
Line Attenuation 24.0 db 15.0 db
Noise Margin 11.9 db 25.0 db

Which is fine, (BT Business)

My freinds, on orange home broadband have a better attenuation than me but get a lower sync speed,
what could be causing this?

We both use netgear routers - different model's and cannot get power levels etc..
so is their any fix to my freinds lower broadband speed than me?
they only live 200meters away from the exchange, but i suspect their line goes a different route than directly to their house, but with that line attenuation i would have thought the 8Mb is possible.

Any thoughts?

Your friend has a wiring problem.

Both of you should get 8 Meg Sync on ADSL Max.

Both of your lines are longer than the distances to exchange, naturally. Yours 1.7 km; friend 1.4 km.
