Quick question about moving house and area codes

Both exchanges in question are under the same area code, house 1 is connected to exchange A, house 2 is connected to exchange B, can I take the number from house 1 to house 2?

No.
Although they may use the same area code, this just means that they are both parented at the same main switch exchange.
The initial digit(s) immediately after the area code will be specific to the serving exchange, so cannot be moved to another.

YES...

There is no reason why you cannot have an out of area number. You can have a "London" number which actually terminates in Aberdeen if you wish and outgoing calls will show the London number.

There is a cost, but no reason why it cannot be done.

I still deal with companies that have Out of Area lines and to my knowledge at least one had an installation completed in 2010.

Perhaps from an OLO who may still offer it?
Or OOA for (older) bulk number blocks & ISDN30 are still available from BT.

Eligibilty

All customers who take the ISDN 30 service and analogue customers who took the bulk Out of Area service before 1 February 2000.

Alternatively, move the number to VoIP and take it wherever you go

Out of area lines were withdrawn from new supply several years ago and a product migration program should have indentified them and migrated end users onto alternative services. Some slipped through the net and are still going strong now, others only come to light when cable recovery takes place and then they loose service.
Out of Area lines were not compatible with xDSL.

I have ordered several ELSA option 2 circuit recently which have out-of-area numbers; so it is possible - probably not practical though!
