Nicked from that link here is some blurb...
"Your pledge is very important. It tells funders that they should invest in better fixed and wireless broadband in Newcastle. Better broadband for residents and businesses.
The council on behalf of the city has been successful in getting through the initial stage of the process for funding fixed and wireless broadband in Newcastle. We need more evidence of demand for better broadband in the city, that's why we need your pledge. Some areas currently have limited broadband provision and a limited choice of providers, and operators do not currently have upgrades or provisions planned for these areas for the foreseeable future.
We want to bring broadband access to all parts of Newcastle with better speeds a choice of providers. We could see significant increases in speeds and better wireless access across the city. This will mean Newcastle will have among the fastest broadband speeds of any major city in Europe. Our city is already competing nationally and internationally but this will allow us to do more whilst attracting new investment. It will help businesses develop new products and services, reach new markets and improve efficiency."
