whats a good speed

Heard on radio today the goverment will be trying to spread the speed
Of broadband over the uk, meaning the providers should be getting every1
Home a reasonable not just making those with fast broadband
faster.... hope u can follow what im asking.....
Question....anyone know whats considered a reasonable speed...im.on adsl max
2s my.max speed on a good day so i feel left out with smart tv and streaming movies ect.

Sorry, difficult to understand what you are saying.

A reasonable speed is a speed capable of running what you wouild expect to run based on the number of users in your house. A 10Mb connection would probably be good for most households at the moment. A 50Mb connection would probably cater for all but the highest tier of home users.

As HD streaming services become more common being accessed by increasing numbers of devices then speeds would need to increase.

To enjoy standard definition streams a 2 Meg connection is needed. To enjoy the majority of the HD streams available then 5 Mbps is needed, so for 2012 those with a 10 Meg service are generally happy.

Is there a possibility that you go re-write your post in reasonable English correcting the multitude of mistakes - grammar, spelling, technical and formatting, that make it almost impossible to read or understand.

Whilst 75% of this country are on 10mb or more. More resource seems to being spent in this area than those, like me, who are on small Market 1 exchange which will never get beyond ADSL2+. 4mb on a good day.
There is talk of ADSL2 but this will only assist if you are close to an exchange.
I believe, 10% of this country are unable to obtain broadband by traditional methods and, unlikely to be.
What speed is needed to have VOIP, Video on Demand, streaming. This is minimum that should be available to all.

4 Meg or more is workable unless you want to download stuff, or stream HD. Anything less is difficult to put up with, unless you've never seen faster. My ADSL line was fine with 6.5 Meg. Now it has doubled, my browsing habits haven't changed, so other than slightly faster pages loads, it's not really needed.

You can download on a 4Mbps connection! ... It just takes twice as long as on a 8Mbps connection.

I tend to agree 10Mbps is enough for most households.

However it is not so much the speed that is important it is about being able to use the services you'd expect to. I.E many people will be happy if iPlayer will stream in HD without buffering and all websites, applications and games run smoothly.

People do have to stop thinking that internet is the only way to get TV, I really don't know how this thought process started but it is silly. Satellite is the best way to get broadcast TV (live TV).

i see you still jump on people you deem to be under you ... shame on you m8 you give this forum a bad name!!

There is no reason a market 1 exchange will not go beyond 4Meg, people can still sync at 8128Kbps and get good throughput. Distance to the exchange is key.

10% not get braodband from traditional methods, never believe the headlines, more like 99% can get broadband, but yes around 10 to 14% can only connect at under 2 Mbps.

That said other than money there is no reason someone cannot have Gigabit already in the UK.
