Hang on, where did that 2mbit go?

So my router and DECT phone base are plugged directly into the master, with no extensions connected.

I previously got around 10mbit, however now it's closer to 8mbit, with a slightly low looking SNR.

Before posting this I disconnected everything & reconnected it all to ensure that there were no loose connections. Before this the line had been up for 30 days with similar stats.

Looking at the DMT Tool, the first two gaps are accounted for by local MW radio stations (Magic 1152 and 1458 Gold Manchester). Not sure what causes the others!

Quiet line test still sounds quiet, so I'm at a loss as to how to get the speed back up a bit.. Is this just the way things go, or have I missed something painfully obvious somewhere?

Who is the ISP.

When you sync initially is the SNR 6db or 3db. Perhaps this got increased.

Also have you tried syncing at 10:30am-ish, that's the best time to sync usually.

ISP is Bethere, I'm on Be* value so there should (should!) be a sync limit of 12mbit. The previous limit was 8mbit so there's always the option that they've made a mistake reconfiguring the dslam.

The target SNR should be around 6db I'd think. I'll try to get a 10am-ish sync and see how things go.

Looks like an 8Mbps cap to me.

The muppetry was strong with this one.

Called be*, who confirmed I was on the lowest target-SNR profile possible, but they confirmed I had no sync limit... but then suggested switching to no faceplate and a new filter/rj11 lead...

Somewhere, there's a fault in one of those three devices, but since it's going well now I'll leave it. The aesthetics of it being the test socket really doesn't fuss me; it's in the garage so I really couldn't care less!

No noise on the line ? Possibly an RFI source nearby, that's still lots of errors. Worth trying a different router, often find, at this point, that someone will point out that the high errors are a feature of your flavour of router.

I'm in an apartment block so yeah, there's probably a plasma screen TV nearby or something similar; not really sure how I'd check for one.

My other router (DG834v2) connects around 1mbit slower than the BeBox (Speedtouch 585v7). Apparently these are prone to counting lots of nonexistent errors.

It's exaggerated at best how much plasma tvs affect these things. We have a few plasmas in our house, at one point the plasma was touching the router as the router was placed next to the screen. All was fine.

Devices which are malfunctioning down a phone line are much worse I find. Eg get 1 faulty Sky box & it can slowdown and cause issues for several houses in the area. It literally will pump junk down the phone lines and causes problems for everybody nearby.

I find if a line holds I don't worry too much. By hold I mean no drop out ever. Even 1 drop out a month and I'm up in arms personally (if I notice it). There's people who think a drop out a day is fine. Even ISPs suggest that's fine. Excuse me but a line shouldn't be dropping full stop. I had a few rows with eclipse internet a long while back as they thought numerous drops a day was fine.

That said I'm the kind of guy who'll happily lose a few Mbps for the sake of perfect stability. I don't 'push' a line with custom SNR or anything. Some people force to SNR as low as 1 / 2 db. Crazy in my opinion.

Hope things are kind of sorted anyway SNR is back to 3db from the looks of it. Given that it was 6db before as you thought. That'll give a little more speed.
