In reply to a post by wolvesmad:
I've tried looking on google to find out what my exchange chipset is. It has recently been upgraded to 21CN and I moved over to this service.

My router is a DGN2000

What's the chipset likely to be??
My 2Wire 2700HGV router indicates Huawei MSAN (Multi-Service Access Node) using Infineon chipset.

From 2Wire 2700HGV router: DSLAM Vendor Information: Country: {0xB5} Vendor: {IFTN} Specific: {0xBE71}

21CN introduced the concept of the Multi-Service Access Node (MSAN)

My Draytek Vigor 120 which runs which matches my exchange Infinon chipset, shows 3dB lower SNR and a higher exchange connection than anything else I use, which includes my Billion 7800N and Fritzbix 7930.

You can find out the vendor using that router since I've done it myself.

Activate debugging on the router via this link:

http://192.168.0.1/setup.cgi?todo=debug

Then start 'Command Promt' and type:

telnet 192.168.0.1

If Windows doesn't recognise Telnet as a valid command you may need to activate the Telnet Client through Windows Features.

Once you are in enter your username and password and enter the following line:

adslctl info --vendor

I believe that's the one, it should come back with a four character string for the vendor.

IFTN = Infineon
TSTC = Texas Instruments

Not sure about other ones.

Do adslctl info --stats and see if that is more useful.

Or adslctl info --show

Do it really make that much difference? i tried different routers with different chipsets when I was on ADSL and I found the best one that worked was a different chipset that was at the exchange.

I agree I think you will get the best experience from the better built router, especially ones with processors that can handle lots of data.

Broadcom based routers seem to always do well but it may be due to Broadcom have better quality chipsets.
