Any tips to improve upload speed?

Hi Guys

Just wondered if you have any tips for a better upload speed as it really impacts browsing at the moment

This is the current speed

We need to know three things to help you:-

1) Your line/router stats. See here for help.

2) Your exchange, (the URL of the results from this checker would be ideal).

3) Your ISP and the package you are on.

It could be due to any one or a combination of those things. Given (1) we can probably diagnose problems; given (2) we can see what products are available to you if you aren't on the best you can get; and (3) tells us whether you can upgrade with that ISP or migrate to another with better products.

Looks like you have the normal (448kbps) upload sync for an standard ADSL line to me.

Unless you have ADSL2+ or other modern alternatives available on your exchange then you may be stuck with that. I think upgrading to what's often marketed as a 'business' package is the only option for a faster upload if you are on standard ADSL. This would give you an 832kbps upload.

If you are uploading lots of data, this can impact downloads too, but by upload a lot I mean a constant 380Kbps stream of data e.g. sending a 1GB video file to YouTube

The way to resolve this is to use a router that supports QoS, or buy a faster broadband service but that will usually still saturate, so back to QoS anyway

I thought that at first, but I can't remember seeing 0.4Mbps on 448kbps upstream sync? Unless the tbb speed test is rounding up.

Looks normal, I just got the same 0.4 on my olde 20CN line on the TBB checker

Cheers guys, just browsing is slow. Rarely upload anything, can't most the time its too slow. Only ADSL on my exchange (Slinfold exchange)

If its just web browsing then the upstream is not the problem.

On website browsing all you are sending is very small bursts of 100 to 200 characters to request the web pages. If speed tests are reasonably close to your connection speed, which they seem then you need to consider things

How slow is slow?
7 seconds here for http://www.thinkbroadband.com/hardware/reviews/76-as... to totally load, i.e. the loading icon in web browser to stop turning, rather than the first images to appear.

Your connection speed is a tad slow, and the downstream noise margin high.

Did you take those stats at just before the edit? If so, it indicates you connected at 2-3qm, which is normally a bad time and could have caused both the above. It's worth trying a single reconnection now, (or some other time in daylight), then get the stats again straight away.

Post those stats please .
