ADSL adaptor query

I'm probably being completely stupid, but wondered if any of the experts here could help.

I have a Masterplug 15m flat telephone extension lead, running from the BT master socket in the hall, up to my office upstairs. My telephone and broadband are connected to it in the office.

Unfortunately the adaptor that plugs into the master socket sticks out a bit and keeps getting whacked by the hoover etc. As a result, one of the wires has come loose a bit and my broadband keeps dropping [voice is fine]. As I don't want to pay out for another extension lead kit, am I right in thinking that all I have to do is to buy an ADSL adaptor and plug the existing lead into it. The end of the existing lead has an RJ11 connector on it. If so, where is the best place to buy the adaptor, I only reallywant the one outlet and everything I've seen on the net seems to be dual adaptors, which will take up even more room!

You can get a bt to rj11 adaptor from ebay just type it in. for 1.25

I would recommend a filtered faceplate instead. for 6.50 from amazon

If there is spare cable at the master socket end on that extension lead you can cut the plug off the end, remove the master faceplate, and wire a matching pair direct to terminals 2 and 5, as in this pic, if your master is the type in that pic.

Best to fit an extension socket to it upstairs, wiring the same pair to the terminals, so T2 >> T2 and T5 >> T5. (Not T2 >> T5). The ADSL Nation XTF is ideal.

You will need an IDC/Krone tool which is used to push the wires into the IDC connectors. (You don't strip the insulation off, the IDC connections cut through it when you push the wire in with the tool.

A much neater job than now downstairs. What sort of arrangemnt is the upstairs end at the moment?

How will plugging the existing adapter that has a loose wire into an second adapter solve anything? Or have I misunderstood?

I'm still chuckling .... I wonder who did the wiring.

On the right is a small step on the connector - that is the termination side. When the Krone tool is pressed down it inserts the wire into the jaws and that does two things - stops the tool going too far and holds the wire in place for that it is trimmed off neatly.
