We have been with BT broadband for around 2 years now.
We recently moved offices to another suite in the same building, this involved ordering and installing a new broadband connection.
The new connection will only sync at 444kbps on the upload connection.
The previous connection was around 1000kbps per second upload.
Our download rates are the same at 16mbps which is great.
We are connected to the Skelmersdale exchange which is around 1 mile away.

When I talk to BT they refuse to accept that there is a problem on the line or that the upload speed is low. Can anyone help me diagnose what is wrong please!

What the retail ISP has requested from the wholesale provider is wrong or BT Wholesale are doing something wrong without the retail side knowing.
You have lots of spare noise margin for the upstream, so it looks capped.
What does the material for the product say the maximum upload speed is?

Hi MrSaffron,
Thanks for the quick reply! (If only BT could be so quick).
I'm just looking through the paperwork now, and i cannot find anything specifying an upload speed unfortunately.
I am on the Office Unlimited ADSL2 Next Gen (up to 20Mb) connection.
Interestingly the letter says that our max download rate is 8000kpbs when its double that.

It's capped. Traditionally only the expensive BT Business Services ("network" package) used ye olde 832k upstream speed of the Office products, but it's impossible to find the word "upstream" on their site so I don't know what you've been sold.
Rebecca in BT Business Broadband sales says it should be up to 1M

MaxDSL - goes as fast as it can and doesn't read the line checker first.

I had the same issue when my line was upgraded to ADSL2+, upload stuck at 444Kbps when the line was clearly capable of much more. The problem turned out to be interleaving; getting my ISP to switch it off bumped the upload to 1MB.

I thought interleaving on WBC ADSL2+ was supposed to drop the sync to 888kbps, not 444kps?

You are quite correct, I mixed up 444kbps and 888kpbs.
Ignore me, it's been one of those days...

Looks like Orange is running that line
1st time I think we've seen a BTw Upstream of 444K @ high NM other than Orange.

Plusnet did it until very recently.
