New(ish) to ADSL - questions.

My first post here in quite a while.

I've recently moved house which meant moving from cable to ADSL. I haven't used an ADSL service since 2002 when I was on 512k ADSL with Nildram. I'm now with Vivaciti on their Broadband Unlimited service (http://www.vivaciti.net/product/1/home-internet/9/broadband-unlimited/6).

Here are the line stats:

Exchange: STOKE ON TRENT (WMSTK)

I'm wondering if this is the maximum speed I'm going to be able to achieve on the line? I've disconnected all of the extensions which were causing quite a bit of interference. The Max Rate is usually over 10000kbps but with me grabbing those stats at peak time it seems the exchange is quite congested? The service can have interleaving turned on or off and it can have the SNR set as low as 3db.

Any thoughts would be most welcome

It's about right; perhaps you might get another 0.5 Meg. NM is bit on low side, but it's nighttime.

Sync speed isn't influenced by congestion; only throughput.

Nope. I thought about "a" or "an", and "a" is correct. . Try again, more carefully .

Anyway, as you haven't added my suggestion I assume "only by throughput" is what you meant .

Thanks. I rebooted the router this morning and I'm now seeing these stats:

Line Attenuation 43db 25.5db
Data Rate 8727kbps 1045kbps
Max Rate 10768kbps 1052kbps

Is my connection being profiled at all? I'm not sure if profiling is enabled on ADSL2+. I only ask because I've been rebooting, swapping routers, swapping filters, trying the test socket etc etc since the line became active last week.

Just having a bit of fun - about something that actually is ambiguous if you don't already know which of the two meanings was intended.

The data rate is a little lower than I would like to see, but nothing major wrong. The maximum I would expect would be around 9Mbps.

When you say you have disconnected the extension, do you mean detached the wires from the back of the faceplate? What is connected to the filter as well as the router? ARe you using a phone extension cable or just a dangly filter feeding the ADSL cable and the phone's own cable?
