Moving house, line speed worry

Moving from town centre half a mile from exchange with speed of about 21 meg to a flat 2.16 km from exchange which Sky (llu) shows as max of 9.4 min of 4.0!

Do you think this will be correct? Currenly living in a 200 year old building and new place is about 30 years old.

I will do things like replace the faceplate with a filtered one but just really worried about such a drop.

Depends on actual line length. I get 20 Meg from 2 km (27 db Attenuation) line.

Estimate seems rather low, but Sky don't really know anything; they get their data from the BTw database which is often out-of-date & pessimistic.

Well the sky/bt checker says 16-19 meg for my current and I get 21 meg

No FTTC available till June

I download games from Steam quite often which are 6-15 gig each so they would take ages this way.

Are you with Sky? If so it knows your BB history.

In any case your present place has a history; the new place might not.

Yes with sky but also tried local phone numbers on the same street like shops and they give the same result to current.

Ok, went to my new flat and noticed this ancient looking socket with the old logo of a t with 2 dots and a very thin fragile looking wire going across floor and out the front door.

I know my neighbours have broadband as picked up a bt and sky connection.

You need to get that replaced. BT prices and rules change all the time - you could find it is free, or £125 or £25 ... but given what you are spending on the house getting a conversion done is very small. You can then get a new split faceplate, where you want it.

I decided to go with Sky as its £15 to install and they are the llu provider at my current address(contract ended so its going in my girlfriends name at new flat)
