LCP Message

What does LCP mean?
I have been having internet conection problems associated with a crackling telephone connection. I have often seen the sequence of lines in my Netgear log as folows:
"LCP Down - user request"
"[Internet disconnected]"
"[Internet disconnected]"
"Initialize LCP"
"LCP allowed to come up"
"CHAP authentication success"
"UPnP set event:removing redirect rule port, port:21828 protocol"
"[Internet connected] IP address xx.xxx.xxx.xxx

Link Control Protocol

It's the underlying protocol that enables your router to log in to your ISP before you've got a "proper" (IP address etc) internet connection.
