Fibre Cabinets

[link to this post]

Is there anyway of finding the physical locations of fibre cabinets. I have no idea where my telephone cab is. The Wholesale checker tells me I'm served by Cab 4 on my exchange.

Walk and look!

Follow your drop wire back to the pole, then to the next ... it will give you a general idea. Then start looking on verges, in hedges &c.

Drop wire goes to a pole 10 mtrs away then goes underground. Are cabinets numbered? I've looked around when walking around my area, without success.

Yes they are numbers (mostly) if it goes underground then follow the man hole covers - they usually will follow the road/pavement.

Your cabinets fibre twin will be no more than 80m away from your copper cabinet.

What's your postcode, we can play hunt the cabinet on Google street view. What speeds are they suggesting, this may give you a vague idea of the distance.

Found it thanks to a neighbour. He had apparently looked for it some time ago.

you can look them up on planning application systems too - the cab number is usually included in the BT Agent's notification to the local planners.

If that's your cab, don't tell 'em when they ring, if they are that pants, you don't want them near it. smile

There are three quite tall cabinets on the opposite side of the road near our flats. I note that one of the cabinets has the door open or ajar always. I'm not sure there's in use equipment in there as there's a mess of wires and crisp packets in there!. On the corner of the road a bit further up, there's a single smaller one. Must take a pic of them. Using https://www.btwholesale.com/includes/adsl/main.html mine says cabinet 29 for the exchange name, listing FTTC and below.
