Temporary BB options

For 4 months of the year I stay in a cabin in the Highlands of Scotland. The cabin has a landline telephone and the Landlord is happy for me to arrange for BB to fitted. The usage will be very high as there can be up to 6 of us staying there for the 4 months period. The neighbour who lives there 24/7 has got BT BB, so I know it is possible, however I'm seeking advice on options available for having a temporary BB fitted for the period we are staying there. Can anyone help?

Firstly we would need the post code to look at the available options to you. Different postcodes get different LLU providers which are usually the cheapest etc.

The nearest Post code is AB35 5TB

The cheapest you will get here for high usage is BT I think (assuming you want unlimited).

No major LLU available so no real cheap bargains to have.
Sky isn't available. No TalkTalk. No o2. No virginmedia, no C&W. The LLU is what makes it cheap and you have none.

Whatever you get will be via BTs systems so more pricey. I'm assuming the area is fairly remote as you often only see no LLU in these kinds of areas.

I would say the best bet is to pay over 12 months and divide the cost between the 6 of you. So you pay 2 months each basically that way.

Short term contracts are unlikely to be unlimited.

I assume you know the phone number of the cottage. if so, putting that into this checker could be more definitive re the exchnage. Though probably the same result. The URL of the samnkows result would be great.

It would be better to say speeds of up to 8Mbps unless you know how long the line is from the cabin to the exchange for a more accurate estimate.

The lines straight line is below 1km. All of the post code checkers show full 8Mbps achievable easily.

There are connection and cease charges involved that may make "short term" uneconomic.

You often don't see the connection charge as it's absorbed into a 12 month minimum contract term - if you don't have the latter you're very likely to have a connection charge on £40+

So I would just look for the best permanent solution.

Thanks for info. I've phoned BT and they are talking about sending me the kit and I'd have to wait for the engineer to be available. This may sound naive, but can anyone tell me what the engineer actually does? I thought BB was just 'plug and play'
