Can I pay BT to replace 450m of cable?

I am just enquiring if it is possible to pay BT to replace about 450m of cable (all overhead) from my cabinet to my house as (according to a BT engineer who recently visited) has been the root of all evil to do with my line in recent weeks. About 120m of it is aluminium. I am on ADSL max.

but only need to replace the ali, so just 120m required 'new'

You obviously did not offer the BT Tech enough tea, biscuits, bacon rolls &c. Had the cable been that bad he would have reported it and put in a request for replacement.

As Mr S says, be prepared for a shock - it will be two or possibly three people for most of a day.

Highly unlikely that any overhead wire is aluminium.

Ah I should have added that the 120m length of alu is from the cab to the first pole which goes under a road

The price is increasing

No chance then. That sounds as though a lot of subscribers would lose phone and broadband connection for a considerable period.

Yeah its rapidly turning into a pipe dream

Maybe a well placed axe swing where it exits the ground by the pole might be needed! I am joking of course. Its really frustrating though.

Hypothetically speaking, in a couple of years time when I may have FTTC here (gogo superfast Cymru) will this 120m length of aluminium over 450m from me to the cab have a drastic affect on my FTTC sync?

It wont help that's for sure! It probably affects more people than just you, those people probably would rather keep the ali than have downtime. Also it might not be having a drastic affect anyway.
