BT INFINITY 76mb - Want to use a Netgear modem?

Hi i am looking to get a lower ping for gaming and i am wondering if i can use a Netgear modem instead of the Openreach pile of junk modem they supplied me with?

Is it possible and if so which modem can i use?

you would need a VDSL modem. I don't know if Netgear do one or if it's Openreach compatible.

Do you mean modem or router ?

A different modem won't give you a lower ping.

And why do you call the OR modem a pile of junk?

It will as it will process my connection more efficiently.

I used to have the basic one supplied by bt on normal broadband then i changed to Netgear and it improved drastically.

So just use the modem direct, and set up a PPPoE connection, bypassing the router. If this improves the ping, use it that way, but I'd guess it will not.

It won't make a difference and it won't replace the openreach modem either as it won't be compatible.

The OR modem isn't bad and gets the job done.

When I had fibre I used my fritzbox 7390 instead of the OR modem and router didn't make the slightest difference to speed or pings, only advantage was it saved one electric socket, so don't think it will make any difference.
