Where to buy short RJ11 to BT plug cable?

[link to this post]

Hi

Hopefully the right place to post... I have a phone with a basestation which has an RJ11 port that connects via a cable to the BT style plug in the socket on the wall.

I'm trying to get rid of as much noise/interferance as possible, so was looking to get a shorter (and twisted pair if possible!) cable than the 2 meter one that goes between the phone and the socket at the moment (that came in the original box with the phone etc.). 30cm would be a perfect length, but looking online on Amazon etc. I can't find one less than 1 meter in length.

Any help?
Thanks

I'm not sure if this is what your looking for but this is a great choice.
Got mine a few months back it improved the stability of my line compaired to some cheap 3 meter rj11 cable.

or do you mean RJ11 to a BT 431A plug, like an old analogue modem?

It's one of these I'm looking for, except shorter (around 30cm) and twisted pair instead of parallel cabling (although I doubt that would make much of a difference over 30cm!)

You're really supposed to plug it into a DSL filter first rather than straight in the BT socket. There are some adapters available

For the DSL filter, I'm plugging it into a master socket that has the filter in it. (The shorter length is really so cables can be tidied easier, although I like to think I'm getting a 0.01% decrease in noise as well)

I could get an adapter but it seems like a messy/hacky solution when a single cable should work.

If it is just for the voice phone, then to be perfectly frank no point in the twisted pair requirement for such a short distance.

It is for the PHONE so even plugging into a filter means a BT431A plug is needed on the end.

No, the connection is already filtered so an additional filter is not necessary and will be bypassed.

The OP wants to replace the phone's line cord - RJ11 to BT431 with a shorter cable.. That is all. Have a look at the line cord on your phone - it is RJ11 or RJ12 to BT431.

Whether it has any effect - that is questionable.

Read my last post. The OP could use a DSL microfilter and plug the RJ11 into that or use an adapter.

I understand, but given the reason is mainly a cosmetic tidy desire, then probably not what they want.

The OP said it was to get rid of interference - shortening the cable on the phone if it is filtered will make no difference to interference on the ADSL.

Just be aware that there is no standard wiring for such cables.

I have a Panasonic phone and a US Robotics modem. Both have RJ11 ports, but the cables to BT sockets are not interchangeable.

It might be useful to know what sort of interference the OP is experiencing. A much shorter lead might alter the way this interference is being picked up, i.e. the shortened lead no longer acts as a aerial for a particular RF frequency...

It is true that there may not be any common connections for RJ11 to BT plug. However, most RJ11s are transparent so easy to see which coloured wires go to which pin. The BT plug is generally opaque, but shining a torch behind it will usually show you that pins 2 and 5 are the default.

2 and 5 on the BT plug are a must. An RJ11 is a 6P/2C and should normally only have 3&4 wired, it becomes an RJ14 (6P/4C) when 2&5 have connections. Some modems, the 2-Wire 2700/01 for example have a detection circuit and will switch to the correct incoming pair.
