Help - what kind of cabinet is this?

I live in Winwick, Warringon. I live on 10 year old estate (Winwick Park) which suffers from sub 2mb ADSL speeds. The main part of Winwick was recently upgraded to FTTC but for some reason Winwick Park wasn't included and instead has to wait for Connecting Cheshire to fund BT to do the upgrade.

The question I have is, around the estate there are 3 of these grey cabinets:

I am connected to this one. What are these? I heard that when the estate was first built it used TPON and had to be changed to copper so ADSL would work.

I have seen BT laying fibre on the estate, how would it work? would each of these grey cabinets needs a FTTC cabinet putting next to them? or will the grey cabs be connected to the main warrington exchange?

Just trying to gage how far along BT are, they dont give any details.

Might be a TPON cabinet, and would need a fibre twin adding and a slightly different wiring set-up maybe to the standard cabinet arrangement

I believe when the estate was built it was TPON. But they then laid copper so people could get ADSL.

I have seen BT on the estate laying fibre through the ducts, just trying to work out if we have to wait until green fibre boxes pop up next to each grey cabinet or whether it wont require that.

I doubt the TPON cab has space for a MSAN on top of the old fujitsu kit (which will still be in the cabs unless they did a full copper overlay)

When you say laying fibre do you mean black with yellow strip tubing (1 inch diameter) or drums of glass fibre and compressors blowing it down existing mini ducts?

I think it was actually black with yellow strip tubing... they had a big roll and some machine pushing it down the existing ducts.

There is an outside chance they might opt for FTTP rather than FTTC

It was on a big reel and had something pushing it through the ducts.

Same is used for FTTP and FTTC, but generally cabinets are stood before they do the tubing

If it is via BDUK system then time to chase council to say more, as they have some input onto what is done where and in what order

It is via Connecting Cheshire which got there money from BDUK funding. I have spoke to a few people and went to an open day but it appears they don't have a clue what BT are doing they just have very vague idea when an area might be upgraded.
