TBB speed test interpretation

I'm sure I've seen the answer before but can't find it.

For several years I've got a c.8Mbps download, and c.0.9Mbps upload. All perfectly fine for my needs.

In the past week or two I've noticed that when I run a speed test it almost always shows a much slower TBBx1 figure. See this for a typical result.

Does this imply that it's possibly congestion at the ISP?

My ISP is Eclipse and given their recent change for domestic users and eports of service degradation to those users makes me wonder whether this is the case. Or whether there's another possible cause.

It suggests congestion or traffic management techniques. See if things are very different between a test at 7.30am and 10.30am

Ok, I've run a number of speed tests this morning.

Seems pretty clear that between 0909 and 1015, while I had to go out, something changed. Looks like some sort of traffic management

Yeah last week it was 9am but that was BST.

Other Eclipse users are reporting similar.

Shame, they've been for me a very good ISP for >11 years. May well be looking to move when my 2-year discount deal finishers in January.

Your last two are similar to what I am seeing - on BT.

It may be a common node has congestion or plain co-incidence! My comments are here.

Not any more though ... for some reason I picked up te wrong URL when looking at teh images.

This morning with BT

I only have one "bad result" from this morning. Yesterday afternoon had problems for me too the time frame was longer though.

12:15 yesterday
15:19 yesterday
followed by several aborted tests whilst checking various aspects. No problems here and .net tests were working fine

And now, I can start a test off, it will rise up to around 70Mbps for a few seconds then drop right down and fluctuate between 10 and 40 for the rest of the initial test then for the x6 it rises to 70 and maybe only fluctuates by around 5Mbps. TBB test files seem to average around 20Mbps - fluctuating between about 10 and 40.

I initially asked the question because TBB had given the strange results when compared to others.
