FEC means interleaving has corrected the errors, so interleaving is doing it job

Changing from a 3dB to a 6dB noise margin and thus lower bin/bin loading may reduce the number of errors at the expensive of a Meg or so sync speed. Whether worth it depends on what effect the FEC corrections are having on your use of the line.

Check those errors after it's been up a while - it could be that a lot occurred during the sync negotiation and you gave no indication of the previous uptime when the count was very high.

Some routers - e,g. Speedtouch/Thomson/Technicolor certainly had a propensity to report huge numbers of FEC errors - I've no idea if the numbers were correct or not but they seemed to have no impact on performance when I had one.

That's what Mr.S was saying, due to the lines 3db snore, then higher errors are to be expected. A 6db target may well lose the FECS, but at a loss of around a megs sync.
