Street cabinet I'd??

[link to this post]

Hi,

I'm trying to identify a new cabinet that's been installed outside my house it's light grey and from what I can tell is linked to a CATV man hole. Both bt and virgin are denying ownership?

Not sure how to upload a pic?

Thanks in advance

You can't put pics on here. What we all do is upload it to one of the freebie sites and post a link smile.

My broadband basic info/help site - www.robertos.me.uk. Domains, site and mail hosting - Tsohost.
Connection - Plusnet UnLim Fibre (FTTC). Sync ~ 52.8 (interleaved)/15.0Mbps @ 600m. - IPv4BQM IPv6BQM

Thanks for the link bud. I just checked and it's not on there. Thing is this Is a private road and I spoke to the management company and they didn't know anything about it or give permission. I'm not a right moany sod but this is the most stupid cabinet I've ever seen in my life it's basically in the middle of the pavement and restricts access around my house and generally looks really silly. It obscures my flower bed in so upset about it. Came home last Friday and it was just there frown if it was up against my wall I probably wouldn't mind so much.

No notice, no sticker on it for all I know there could be a bomb in there. If I can't find the owner soon I will hire a petrol grinder frown

When I moved here all the houses where brand new and I got almost the first pick. I chose this one as I liked the look of the house. If that was there I honestly don't think I would of commited to what is arguably one of the most important purchases most of us will make in our lives. I'm so hacked off about it mate. It has definitely devalued my house to some degree hasn't it?. And I have no idea who's done it or what exactly it's for. Like I say I'm not a right moany sod and if it has to go somewhere round my house fair enough but not there frown not in front of my flower bed frown

Yep, I agree. Something must be done, it can't stay like that.

Someone must know who owns it.

Sheeesshh! That's awful.

Doesn't look like either BT or Virgin to me. Have there been any other roadworks close by? Traffic lights, security CCTV - ummm, you said it's a CATV manhole. Is there supposed to be security CCTV for the street as part of the purchase? That would need a CATV manhole but why a cabinet as well I don't know.

I find it hard to believe no-one at the management company knows anything about it, even if the person/people you spoke to didn't. They may not have realised a cabinet would be needed.

I done a little research and these cabinets can be for street lights etc but they have to display a danger of electrics sticker/sign I think but can't be sure that the CATV manholes are for cable, and most of the time come back to virgin.

We have CCTV already and the nearest camera is about 25M away but is linked to the flats across the road and was installed at least three years ago. Also, no roadworks or traffic lights. I'm certain bt's boxes are all green. It reeks of Virgin media but they are flatly denying it.... Well one young lady there said "it sounds like ours, if it's light grey and linked to CATV" and then the next fella said "there's no way it's ours I checked post code checker and you don't have cable" however since it was only installed last week I think maybe he's jumping the gun and it simply is not on virgins postcode check.

The management company are as confused as me mate, they sent out there guy to look and said they will investigate it but I think they have exhausted all there inquires the same as me. I'm loosing sleep over this now I honestly feel like going out there now with whatever I can find ie sledgehammer. They didn't even put a note through my door to say sorry about choosing your house out of the other hundred odd in my road frown

Has a mobile mast appeared nearby? Either standalone or fixed to a street light?

The work will have been given the green light by the owners of that land. It sounds more likely to me that someone at the management company gave their permission for it to go ahead and they don't want to admit it to you. As for getting recourse, it sounds like things may get legal.

Oliver.

My hunch it is local catv rather than Virgin. Do the houses have TV aerials?

Hi mate no we don't have airieals on our houses and apparently have sky already installed. Could it be sky? Or If it's something to do with the TV arieal, would be the owner? Or is the developer something to do with it.

Thanks to everyone that's posted here. I hope we can get to the bottom of this. Cheers guys.

It'll be a local CATV cabinet provided by the developer / management company then. Do you pay a 'service charge' or similar to anyone for TV / Communal gardening etc? If you do, that's where you need to be heading.

I'm surprised that no-one suggested the council before now. Even though it is a private road, they might know, or recognise the box. You can also get an opinion about whether they'd allow it there if it were a public road.

The box looks serious enough to be BT or VM, but doesn't look like either of theirs to be honest. The lock area looks rather different.

Ordinarily, you'd think that against the wall would be better - but from the look of all the black circular manholes, I'd say there were some services running along that strip

Also take a photo of the front/street face of the cabinet, which seems to have its main doors there, judging by what looks like a hinge fulcrum.

Post it as before.
