Hardware q: can I get wired connection via a tel socket?

Hi guys, I recently got a BT fibre optic hub/router set up in my house, but because the instructions said I should connect it up to the Openreach box which is in my storage cupboard, I haven't been able to get a wired Ethernet connection between the hub and my desktop computer since it is in my bedroom.

Is there a way I can get a wired Ethernet connection? Does the BT hub need to be connected up to the Openreach box? Does the hub need to be in my bedroom in order for me to have a wired connection? There are telephone sockets all around the house including the storage cupboard and my bedroom, would I be able to make use of those at all, maybe buy an extra splitter or something that would allow me to get a wired connection? Would that wired connection be much more stable than the wireless? Thanks in advance!

the Hub needs to be connected to the modem.

You have two choices: leave the hub in the bedroom and run an Ethernet cable to the modem or move the hub to the modem location and run an Ethernet cable to the bedroom.

You could move the modem to the bedroom using the phone cabling however that will need some rework and new filters. There is also an element of risk in that you could loose speed too.

Don't think he's got a modem, the "openreach box" is likely the NTE5.

Homeplugs could be a simple answer.

It would need to be ISDN 30 to be delivered on fibre!

I think we are in agreement that without a better description of the "Openreach Box" it will be hard to assist.

Given how badly the word 'fibre' is used these days, who knows. The only ISDN30 connections I've seen are on E1 style circuits.
