Southern Electric (SSE) Broadband & Phone question

Hi,
Thinking of moving to SSE for my ADSL broadband and phone.

One question I can't find an answer to is related to the phone side
"can you use indirect access codes " like 18185 or similar to route your call over another provider. ? I know BT let you do this and so do PlusNet when you are on basic ADSL broadband. I read that BT no longer obliged to provide this facility by oftel since last year. It was just the basic offering from SSE with just £12 line rental that interested me.

You should get it in writing both that they allow indirect access, and that they will allow indirect access for the duration of your minimum term.

What about using DiscountVoip? If you use a Gigaset N300IP Dect base station, you can make outbound calls via DiscountVoip (or any other voip provider that has SIP) and receive calls via your landline.

A slightly on topic question:

Does SSE use their own network / backhaul? I know they've "PoP'd" quite a lot of BT exchanges but I think that's usually for their business / telco customers.

If you wish to add anytime calls, that takes it up to £22:50 per month, without any other add on. Not really that cheap with an eighteen month contract, which then reverts to a rolling six month contract. Not really a free lunch and near as expensive as some with no contract tie-in.
