How long once you migrate should your old login details be removed? Out of curiosity i just checked and i can still access the net using my old ISPs login. It migrated over on Thurs. Seems odd

Depends on who your new ISP is as some of them don't care what ID or password you use.

Ah right always thought who you can and cant connect to was something that was decided at the exchange or some authentication server before it hit the isp
Would think the old isp would care seeing as im using their bandwidth if i use my old login. My account with old isp been closed too yet can still connect

Register (or login) on our website and you will not see this ad.

Easiest way to find out is to find the IP address and see if it coems up as your old or new ISP.

You wont be connecting to your old ISP.
You new ISP will probably authenticate via phone number or some such, rathe than username/password.
An easy (though not fool proof) way to tell is to check your external IP address.
Go to google and type Whats my IP, then check the IP you see against the RIPE database.

Are you sure you're using their bandwidth? You're probably using your new ISP regardless of the login used.
When connected with the old ISP's username, does the information from the "Learn about yourself" link on here http://centralops.net/co/ tally up to the new or old ISP?

Both his old and new connections are via TTB LLU, so his IP may be simply TalkTalk. Unless the ISPs were just using TT tails, which I doubt.

If i connect using my old details i have my old static IP which is owned by adsl24/coms.
Traceroute shows Enta when logged into old settings (old isp used) instead of talk talk (which my new isp use as there suppliers)
Coms (ex adsl24) are useless though so maybe not deleted me off the system?

Again, a quite possible situation.

See i always thought it was Openreach that deleted your old details. So its up to the isp?

As it's TalkTalk then it doesn't touch Openreach. Different wholesale authentication system. Sounds like Coms haven't got around to removing your account.
Anyone want to buy my login off me then
Only if they are on TT LLU - so, not me... And not sure what it would get them as if they are already on TT LLU then they don't need it.

Free usage until Coms realise
Not really as you would already be paying an ISP to connect to TT LLU.

True. Does that mean in theory i can connect to an TTB LLU ISP if say my mate gave me his login. Or does the authentication process include a phone number check?

Or does the authentication process include a phone number check?
TalkTalk retail certainly does. You can plug in a Sky router with hard-coded PPPoA details and it works just fine.

I read that as "no authentication used" ie if you're wired to a TalkTalk DSLAM you just connect regardless.

All people on TalkTalk wholesale would have unrestricted access to TalkTalk retail's network then?

I don't know and can't test, all I know is that any and no credentials gives a talk talk retail line a working broadband service - I first found this out by using a BT Home Hub to fault find on a TT retail line.
If you have a TT retail line you have a retail broadband service on tap it appears.
Can't say what happens for TT Wholesale customers, whether circuits are setup differently and allocated to different authentication regimes. The authentication might be used to allocate an ISP address from the Retail ISP I suppose.
Last week I took an AOL router home to test and it synced up and logged into AOL via a 21CN BT connection so they don't appear to be limiting the user logins you can apply.
