Will apply Batboys fix as well.
Just a comment - I was seeing error messages in my Thunderbird Error Console which did help me find a work around eventually but it did spoil an evening.
Did also help that I had no problem accessing same email boxes on a laptop which had not had TB upgraded.

You can reinstate the SSL of course then.
