I wonder, now that (since Windows 8) Windows comes bundled with antivirus and no longer nags users to install antivirus post-install, how much antivirus sales have suffered. Quite a bit, probably.

AVG found some malware on my PC which MS defender failed to detect. It looks like I will now have to find another Anti Virus product.

Windows Defender has pretty poor detection rates, but most people probably either don't know or don't care.

I think many software vendors are at it. Its just now some are starting to be up front about it.
Look at how many want to scan your http traffic for malware protection when file scanning is good enough.
Also nod32 throw a big red alert in their new v9 beta product if phishing protection is disabled.

AVG have been guilty of spying on there users for some time, you only have to look at the amount of junk left behind after you un-install the product.
Windows defender can not be trusted to protect you.
Of course you could also upgrade to Linux, then (for the most part) these issues are behind you plus you don't get pestered by all the adverts that Microsoft ensure come with Windows 10

Aslong as you're careful and dont click on dodgy links or visit dodgy sites it shouldn't really matter

Am i the only one that doesnt really care if they collect my browsing history? If some company wants to know my xx.xx.xx.xx IP visited x website on a certaim day/time then so be it. More importantly issues to worry about.

Unfortunately that is still not safe, you may be careful but criminals put viri etc in adverts that are then served on legitimate sites, plus have you never visited a site only to find some JavaScript on that has redirected you to another you had no intention to visit?
If you have WOT added to firefox that will warn you if a site your visiting is unsafe.

If that's all they collected it wouldn't be too bad, but they are also collecting more and more personal info, I was shocked at the amount of info Microsoft want to collect from you continuously after you install Windows 10!

I tried WOT but you get idiots marking down sites that are safe but they just dont like the content, so sadly WOT isnt much of a usefulness for security.
Better to lock down javascript to whitelisted only sites and do ad filtering, but try to whitelist ad's on sites you use regurly that you want to support.

Those ads usually require a user to click them though
I use Noscripts so no code can be executed on a website without me giving it permission and that naturally blocks alot of ads.
Nothing is 100% safe but following basic internet security and not clicking on things that look dodgy will prevent alot of stuff.
I run scans with Malwarebytes and Superantispyware weekly too
