Wiring help Bt master socket

Hello just moved into a new flat and I wasn't getting a dial tone.. I checked the test port on the socket still not working I could see two fires hanging free,
Below is with the plate removed

Can you guys help me with what wire goes where and why I have two cables

Whichever pair of wires has 50v on it, (probably one of the blue pairs) goes onto the screws. Try the blue pair on the left. They look like they have been looped round the screws previously.

The other blue pair probably goes into 2 and 5 on the extension port.

The orange pairs likely don't do anything.

If you have just moved in and taken over the line then you really should be calling your voice service provider and asking them to sort the problem.

The colour coding on that wiring looks more like extension wiring than an incoming BT line (which I think tend to use solid colours). Possibly there's a junction box somewhere, but as it's a block of flats then possibly that's in some form of wiring closet.

It all looks suspicious to me - I've no idea why a master socket should have both its incoming wire disconnected.

Really its best to get the service provider to sort this out. I suppose you could test for 50v DC across pairs of wires, but just why is the master disconnected in the first place? Has it ever been connected?

Have you a contract for telephone/broadband? (Perhaps from your previous address?) Contact your ISP


Renting the flat?

Ask the landlord or quiz other tenants

Hi,
You should pop it all back and call your phone provider, they would have done a line restart at a guess and you just need to call them and say its still not working they will then send out and engineer. You need to play dumb and just tell them you only just moved in and no nothing about it.
