Have a filtered faceplate at the master socket, so should i remove this and plug phone into the test socket, the BB seems fine but could the filtered faceplate be on its way out ( 7 years old ) and BB is interfering with the phone.
The thing is though like i said the noise goes when making or receiving a call. Sky adsl BB and line.

Ok thanks.
I will plug straight into test socket without a filter. If there is still noise does that imply a outside line fault, and that it does not fall on me to sort out? but upon the line provider.

Yes, assuming the phone itself is not faulty of course.

Plugged 3 phones direct into test socket no filters, still buzzing on the line but not affecting the actual phone calls or BB, only hear it before i dial and not during a phone call, very strange!
Not much chance all 3 phones are the problem, so i take it its the outside line etc that is causing the buzzing
It is a fairly loud buzzing and not a crackling.

The only danger is if they consider a buzzing present only during the dial tone not to be service affecting, and then bill you for the call out.

Isn't this called dial tone?

You hear the buzzing over the dial tone?

I was assuming the buzzing noise is over the top of the dial tone, maybe the OP can clarify.

As soon as i press the first number to dial all the buzzing goes away, never had loud buzzing before dialling in the past, never.
Just checked the router stats and being on a long line 56db atten we have been connected at 3.7mbps down and 620 up.
Now connected at 4.4mbps down and 1066 up, sky have something which checks the line dont they? and resets it.
Any chance the buzzing is caused by setting the BB to high and interfering with the line, but is perfectly ok to leave as it is?

Are you saying you used to have complete silence on the line before dialling the first number?

Before we just had a whisper, this is about 7-8 times higher, its not the normal sound thats why it stands out

Sounds like a fault has been rectified. A loud buzzing noise before pressing the first number is normal, it's the dial tone. It's there so that telephone equipment can detect whether a call is in progress or not.

Thanks for the input but its no dial tone ive ever heard before, having a landline for years and years gives an idea about this, but thanks again and as long as its causing no problems for now will keep an eye on things.

I can see no sense in what Oliver is saying, the buzzing prior to the initial dialling isn't right. Ring Sky and have them test their line.

Some might describe the dial tone as a buzzing noise.

I was thinking of that, but as Oliver has said in a earlier post they may bill me if they are called out and find its not causing a problem to the actual service in the BB or calls.
What to do now?

What to do now?
If the buzzing is apparent with three different known working phones in the test jack of the NTE, then report it to your voice supplier, simple as.

Thanks for the reply.
Will they test the line at first by asking me to plug a phone direct into the test socket, i want to be ready and remove the filtered faceplate before i phone, if thats what they do.

They may well do .... but I'm sure all will become clear when you ring them
