Government to take action to reduce Broadband and phone cost

George Osborne will today vow to protect British consumers from big business rip offs as he pledges to save families £470 a year on water, energy, internet and phone bills.

The Chancellor will today announce plans to cut red tape in a series of industries and allow consumers to avoid hidden charges and easily swap providers in a series of markets.

How is this going to encourage Thames Water to fix all their leaks?

If Thames water have lots of leaks people may move to other Water suppliers. as they may be cheaper. The article though lacks any real detail

But if they own the network wherein said leaks are, changing suppliers won't do diddly squat will it.

There are clear analogies between this and Openreach.

indeed, its just creating a reseller operation where all the ressellers will still be reliant on the incumbent supplier.

This will likely make things worse as you get a situation where you cannot directly contact the company that owns the pipes.

It is funny how so many people think competition solves everything even when competitors match each other's prices.
