Good morning all.

according to their site i can get 50 down and 10up with their wireless broadband, a lot better than im currently getting 7 down and .8 up. Also a lot more expensive but im willing to pay.
Thankyou

Do a search for "ab internet" on here for "All posts" and there are a few - one of which was a similar question raised this time last year - and no-one seemed to have really heard of them. The users was Irby but looks like they didn't go with them as when they asked for the service they were told they would only actually get 10Mb.

Hi Ian thanks for the quick reply.
I have already done a search for them but only came up with a few posts and none really answered the question.
Was really just wondering if anyone has used their service or currently with them to see how reliable their service is.
What worries me is getting into contract, paying for equipment costs and the speed fluctuating all over the place in bad weather, or if anyone has used a wireless internet provider at all.

It was kind of why I pointed to the search. The only time they come up is when people are asking the same question as you are and no-one has ever said they know anything about them. I suspect you will get the same level of response now I'm afraid.

Yeah i guess your right shame really as this could be a fix to my slower broadband.
Thanks anyhow Ian.

I'm pretty sure that there have been users of other wireless providers on here.

.... or if anyone has used a wireless internet provider at all.
Back in 2005/2006 living in rural Kent I signed up to Telabria who installed a small wimax antenna on my roof. This gave me a rock solid 3 meg down /0.5 Meg broadband which was a luxury considering my BT line could only support 0.5 meg. Unfortunately Telabria went tits up a few years later and were taken over by vfast (aka Orbital). The level of service wasn't quite the same with vfast so ditched them and went back to copper based ADSLx with UKOnline (RIP). My advice would be to ask ABinternet what speeds you can expect at your address and if you can leave penalty free if they fail to provide the service you are paying for.

Got plenty more and shows the variability I would expect i.e. not unlike the variability when you look at random connections from any provider.
Signs are yes it can do the 25 to 30 Mbps, but not seen anyone with 50 Mbps yet, that might just be a purchasing decision.
Like ADSL and FTTC it is very much a try and see how it works for you

Thanks for the info Baby frog
Its good to hear that you got a rock solid connection, gives me some piece of mind that i'll get a reliable service as well hopefully.
They said they will need to survey my area to see if there is line of sight and then they can tell me what speeds i can get but till then they do no know. According to their map i can but requires further investigation according to them.
I think im going to go for it.
Thanks

Thanks for the info MrSaffron.
I've decided im going to give it a try, and yeah they most likely are purchasing decisions as they do have 5 different options to pick from.
I'd be happy with anything over 15 really.

Let us know how you find the service. Good luck!

Thankyou!
And will do, specially if it helps others out in the sticks

i went for a local one, it only offered 10Mb's but I was happy with it, but then they hit problems with capacity, which is why I went to plusnet.
I am thinking of going back to them if they have sorted out the problem when my plusnet contract ends, I still have the equipment on the roof, so at least I would not have to pay for that again, hopefully.

I dont use a wireless internet provider as such but i do access the internet at a location 5km away from me using a point-to-point ubiquiti 5Ghz wifi link. The wifi access has been rock solid in rain, hail, snow, frost and gales and happily gives me the 80/20 throughput the FTTC connection is capable of.
It should be fairly easy for any wireless ISP to estimate what level of connection you should be able to receive if they have others in your area. It should also be fairly trivial for them to do a physical test to prove the link is viable.

According to their website i can get 50 down and 10 up. But they said they wouldn't know for definite till they survey my house.
I can see both local villages from my house. one village 3 miles away and one 5 miles away. if only i knew people who lived there so i could potentially buy my own equipment and beam that connection to where i currently am.
Don't want to knock on randoms doors and ask if i can install broadband at their home and stick a dish on their house would be nice though as it would fix this broadband problem.

Very similar situation to my own and essentially what I have done.
Are there any commercial premises in the villages?
I worked on basis that a commercial premises is going to be less concerned about mounting a wifi dish on the outside of the building but that said, the dishes I got are only 190mm diameter and very discreet.

yes, there are quite a few.
The problem is how do i go about doing/asking about it.

Its good to talk.
All I did was explain my situation ([censored] ADSL) and what I wanted to do (install a second line at their place and mount a small dish to beam that to mine). During that discussion it became obvious that for that to work they would need to be compensated in some way for power used etc so what we ended up with was me paying extra for a business connection with a block of fixed IPs and giving them access to the bandwidth using one of the fixed IPs.
I opted for the second line route as it meant I could get a system up and running without interfering with their existing phone line and broadband in case there was any issues.

ah ok, that makes things easier as i wasn't sure how i would approach it.
I'll make a note of what buildings i can see from my home and may drop a letter to each premise and see if i get any responses.
And hope its cheaper than a wireless provider.
Thankyou Craski

Pedant mode on... and may drop a letter to each premises and see if i get any responses. FTFY (A premise is nothing at all to do with a building. This incorrect word is gaining hold on these forums).
Pedant mode off

Looking at ABInternet prices, if you are paying for a second line and broadband its unlikely to be cheaper per month.
The main reason i did this for mine was simply that there was no alternatives.
