ADSL2+ town centre slower than ADSL in village ?!!*!*

I moved from a village where we had only ADSL to a new build in a city centre with ADSL2+

In the village I got 6MB download.
In the town centre with a new Draytek Router I get 5.5MB

Zen suggest that town centre speeds are worse. I don't think so.

I need static IP addresses so which broadband provider will be able to offer better speeds? The advertised rate is 17MB download

Just because you're in a city centre doesn't mean the speeds will be better. Speeds are determined by copper line length fromm the source of the xDSL signal.

Can you put your new city centre number into here http://www.dslchecker.bt.com and post the results please? Remove your number before posting.

What are the stats from the ADSL modem?

One clear option if higher speeds are desired is FTTC, but the ADSL stats will show whether there is more to be squeezed from ADSL2+

Yes thats what I mean...

Connection speed is low for the attenuation, would expect to see it more in the 8 to 9 Mbps region. Are speeds the same when you plug into the test socket?

Plugged into Master socket faceplate
ADSL2+ Annex A SHOWTIME 1076000 7415000 7 40

Plugged into Test socket (behind faceplate)
ADSL2+ Annex A SHOWTIME 1083000 9082000 6 39

In the test socket I get 7.78MB download 0.89MB upload Ping Latency 41.00

What is your advice please?

The change in attenuation may be minimal due to rounding to an integer value, but the connection speed is better, and suggests extension wiring is the issue, removing the extensions if possible would great, otherwise consider a
ADSL/VDSL faceplate which will reduce the effect of the extension wiring but leave it still working for the telephone.

For speeds beyond this upgrading to one of the FTTC services is the way to go i.e. VDSL2

If I go to VDSL2 with ZEN should I keep my new Draytek Vigor 2860 (VT3 firmware)?

Yes it's VDSL2 compatible.
