Routers that use channels higher than 48 on 5Ghz

I live in an apartment block and i'm about to get Hyperopic broadband, however i'm seeing so much 'congestion' on all 2.4ghz channels (7 ip's on 1/3/6/9/11 for example) and about 4-5 on each 5Ghz channell many very strong or using large chunks (i.e. 40+mhz).

I have a non AC router just now so will be upgrading seeing the impending Hyperopic install and noticed the area above channel 48 on 5Ghz is totally free and i've seen those channels used elsewhere but can't find any info regarding which routers actually allow this. Been looking at a Netgear Nighthawk etc but again can't find that sort of info....

All my computers that would be using 5Ghz support those channels all the way upto 140 but i know some cannot be used in the UK and other restricted for certain equipment or uses.

Really hard to find info about 5GHz in proper detail, especially questions about the maximum power that can be used, and whether the wireless hardware fully accepts UK/EU settings. Especially as the higher channels allow higher power that cheap hardware might not be able to reach.

I made up my mind not to bother with 5GHz from a router, and use entry-level business WiFi access point instead. More recently, I've found others reaching the same conclusion...

Last time I made a choice, I went for an Xclaim Xi-2 made by Ruckus. Next time, when I'm ready for AC, I may well go for Ubiquiti Unified, starting with the ac-lite model. That isn't the most powerful model, so I'd want to double check coverage.

Most routers will support it, but anything over 48 is a DFS channel.

Say you choose channel 128. The router will go onto channel 128 however it will constantly scan for Radar. If it detects radar the channel will drop down to 36 to 48 despite 128 being manually selected.

Also most devices will take 10 minutes to turn on the 5Ghz radio at higher channels, as the router will need to scan for radar during this time.

The general requirement for DFS is 1 minute. 10 minutes applies to channels 120, 124 and 128.

Are you sure?
Manually selecting channels from 52 to 140 may be incompatible with some wireless devices.

There may be a delay of up to 10 minutes for devices to connect using any one of these channels.

If you are experiencing problems connecting a device, please set your BT Home Hub to Automatic channel selection.

The hub 6 aka smart hub does not. It's slightly annoying.
