BT Email down - AGAIN - 13:00 BST 29th July 2016

I have just sent an email to a committee 12 members.

5 of the 12 have BTInternet.Com email addresses & all have responded:-

<[email protected]>: delivery temporarily suspended: host
mx.bt.lon5.cpcloud.co.uk[65.20.0.49] refused to talk to me: 421 Server busy

Email is being retried, but this seems to be happening rather regularly of late.

this seems to be a widespread issue, affecting more than just Zen mail servers.

As it is likely a problem with BTs mail servers it is probably affecting every ISP/mail service attempting to send to affected addresses.

This seems to be a continuing problem .

I have had to resort to telephoning the BT customers in question, who were blissfully
unaware of any problem.

I haven't been able to find any announcement from BT acknowledging the problem, other than
the Zen link refered to above.

It's really very frustrating.....

You could recommend that the people you are emailing get a non-ISP based email system. Email generally is at best a value add for ISPs and not really their main business. I know that it "should" work but tends to be lower priority. Really it is the recipients problem rather than yours but I guess you want them to receive the emails - the trouble being email is not a guaranteed delivery platform.

My dad uses BT Internet and his emails often get stalled and failed in their outbound server. After a week he'll get a bounce back saying something about a queue being full. I know it's not my server because I can look at the logs and confirm that no BT servers have tried to connect to my server.

I complained to BT about it once on his behalf (him being elderly an' all) and was advised to get him to use Google mail instead.

Hmmm.

I think that my friends & colleagues think I am a bore, as I probably am, as I frequently
and regularly suggest that those who have an ISP linked email service migrate to someone like
GMail if they insist on a free service, Fastmail or RunBox for a better paid service.
