Hi all!, Newbie with a question

[link to this post]

Hi all,

With BT price rises and currently being ripped off for the service we get, we tried to get out of our contract. The issue we have is 2 different providers say they cannot offer us broadband due to the exchange.

Ive looked up the exchange "Pilling" and found it is a BT Wholesale only excange. Does this mean we can only get BT?

https://www.samknows.com/broadband/exchange/LCPIL

Thanks

No, it means only ISPs using BT Wholesale services in the exchange. Which is over a hundred. The ones you can't get are Sky, TalkTalk and Vodafone. (Though you might occasionally find they can supply but the products they provide at exchanges where they do not have a presence, (see the LLU list in your link), are garbage.

What does this checker say for your phone number please? In particular does it have a VDSL range as below

VDSL Range A (Clean) 60.7 45 17.5 11.7 40 Available -- -- Yes --
VDSL Range B (Impacted) 49.6 30 14.5 6.8 25 Available -- -- Yes --

or only ADSL Max? I assume it does not have WBC ADSL2+ available.

Hi,

Only ADSL MAX

Fibre to the premises has recently arrived but its too expensive.

Basically its my parents house, they were with BT and needed the line moving, BT cut them off by mistake and then had to put down as a new contract which they did not give any discount (as original line was)

Their bills are £50 a month for unlimited broadband and evening and weekend calls. With BT putting their prices up we were told we could exit the contract without penalty, but tried twice and both ppl they have tried have come back saying they cannot change over "due to the exchange" so looking to help them out and tell them who can

Thanks again

If it's native FTTP then Infinity 1 for example is resonably priced.

Can you put their number into here http://www.dslchecker.bt.com and post the resutls?

Who is the FTTP provider that's available and what is their pricing?

What's their postcode?

Strange how there's no fttp or fttc showing as available, as cabs on that exhange have been upgraded. Unless they're too far from the cabinet.

What does https://www.homeandwork.openreach.co.uk/?utm_campaig... show for their number?

FTTP is BT with cost £40.99 P/M inc line rental

My olds don't use internet much or indeed the phone, but need them both, so price is too much really

FY6 0HN is postcode. Last on the exchange

Try Waitrose BB. It is run by Plusenet, but at a Market 1 exchange, likely to be cheaper.

I wonder of you can keep the £22.50 pm price after the 1st year if you agree to another years contract, or will your have to pay the £26.50?

No idea. I haven't even looked at their website - just knew they are Plusnet-supplied.

Price would be higher after 12 months though at which point people like Zen might make more sense on FTTP

The OP said his parents need the voice side of things, I don't think Zen do an FVA service do they ?

And surely FTTP AND a landline for calls will bump the costs even higher.

There's no such thing, and it is almost certain keeping of the landline number is crucial.

I thought you still paid landline costs on FTTP? Whether still going through the copper or through the FVA.

Would it necessarily be FVA anyway in this case?

No such thing as what? A payg mobile? I beg to differ.

You can even get contract phones for less than £15 a month, which is cheaper than line rental.

If they're not heavy users then perhaps they could go to one of BT's limited usage packages?

You said "cheap".

I do have one, on the old Orange Raccoon PAYG that doesn't lose its balance at the end of every month. All current PAYG offerings I see these days are not PAYG. They are in truth monthly contract that let you start a new month early, automatically moving the next start date to the same.

Given the earlier posts by the OP, there is no suitable mobile phone product, even if the concept was acceptable to the people concerned. A landline phone that is always charged and always on seems to be needed.

£43.99 per month for up to 38 Mbps FTTP unlimited with phone line rental and if they can live with a 50GB usage allowance even cheaper at £36.49
