Cabinet Capacity

Is there a way of checking capacity on my cabinet?

I want to change ISP but do not want to be left without broadband.

http://www.dslchecker.bt.com

If it shows aa available, then there should be capacity.

If it was full, it would usually show "waiting list"

I think you need to use your address and not your phone number, as if you use a phone number and already have service it knows this and reports the service as available even if the cabinet is full, as of course you do have service on that number already.

I believe an address check assumes you are a new customer.

As long as you follow the approved change process there should be no risk of that. Just place your order with the new ISP and wait.

What you must not do is call your current ISP and tell them you want to cancel. That's what can lead your line being ceased and thus you losing your place in the cabinet.

If you switch to an ISP that uses a different backhaul, a new port is allocated in the cab for some, as of yet, unexplained reason.

We have seen many cases of people where their migration has been action and the FTTC fail. For precisely this reason. So they either wait or go onto ADSL until a port or several come(s) up. With them as the back of the queue. Even if it cannot be avoided, fair play says they should be at the front.
