Unsurprisingly, BT and Sky have a vested interest to protect their heavy investments in football.

all they will succeed doing is stopping them able to monitor it as it will go underground via VPNs.

Most people who use kodi don't even know what a vpn is in my experience.

they wont need to know, a software stack will be developed as part of the kodi addon and simply added as part of the service probably.
