Zen mistake

I am using a satellite connection, however a new cabinet was installed in the village last October and a couple of months ago I switched the phone line to Zen in anticipation.

The sales guy was adamant that I could enjoy a fibre connection from the original cabinet even though I told him that it was two miles away. I agreed to pay for fibre thinking of the new cabinet.

Now Zen tell me that when the new cabinet goes live it will take a long time to switch cabinets. The clear implication was that BT would be uncooperative.

Is this normal, if so is there anything that I can do?

Depends.

If it's an infil cabinet, and your line is in the scope, then the lines, and VDSL connections will be automatically switched over to the new cabinet in what's called a live to live migration.

This CAN take some time, as Openreach need all ISP's of customers who will be switched to agree on a date for it to happen.

Until the live to live is done, no "new" customers will be order from the infil cabinet.
