Length of line to cabinet

Anywhere to find out the length of my line to the cabinet. I am about tops 100m walking distance to the cabinet and 700m to the exchange as crow flies?

Not without knowing the route the line takes, or having an engineer connect a JDSU.

Well just shows how wrong my estimate of 100m is. Just measure as the crow flies from my house to the cabinet and it reports 208m is there a speed/distance list anywhere?

I know the route, have been present many a time when engineers have been repairing my line or swapping pairs.

According to google maps its 290m walking distance following the cable route from my house to the cab. DSL checker says 80 to 66 meg which is quite a wide range.

That's the randomness of crosstalk for you.

Don't forget it is from house to PCP and then PCP to Fibre cab. Add in maybe another 20m to allow for going up poles, down underground, sag in lines and spares cable loops. That will put your estimate up to around 310m ...

At 310 you could get a full 80 with a max attainable of hi 80's but at the low end if the wire gauge is small with plenty of cross talk you may well be down in the low to mid 60's.

You can now just wait and see. the attenuation will, at a guess be around 12dB

Everything is underground but they have put the cabinet around 20m away from the PCP so that will add something. Cant wait.

GEA Test via your isp will tell you the line length between your property and the street fibre cabinet but it have to be LIVE fibre connection first.

My fibre line attenuation is 11.3dB on downstream and the GEA Test for my Line Length In Metres 243.6. Getting sync rate of 79999K/19999K with SNR of 6.6dB

those tests are only an indication and aren't that accurate, and the results between the remote GEA test and BT OR engineers JDSU/EXFO device differ by nearly 100mtrs
