Speed increase?

Not a complaint - but I'm with Supanet - adsl2+ connection is usually 19.4mbps (BTW test), yesterday the speed went up to 21.2mbps - I am on Brandon exchange in Suffolk.
Is there a reason for this increase, as it has never in the past been higher than 19.5mbps.

Can you get any router stats from your equipment ? My guess would be that DLM has dropped the SNR down to 3db.

Were the changes to DLM implemented on ADSL as well as FTTC?

Noise margin reduction to 3dB has been happening on ADSL2+ for a long time, well before the FTTC version.

I have no idea about Supanet, it is just a possible explanation for the speed increase with no actual evidence to confirm it or not.

The point is that on ADSL2+, Sky, TalkTalk,TalkTalk resellers, and many Zen connections do not use the BT Wholesale DLM.

My statement of fact was that 3dB SNRM can be used on ADSL2+ connections which is true, no need to be so pedantic.

AAISP also allow 3db noise margin on TallkTalk based ADSL2+ lines:

As Realmadrid rightly says, if a BTw ADSL 2+ circuit is viewed by DLM as super stable, then it will tweak down to a 3db target .... has done so for many years.

Used to cause problems with Cisco modem/routers which (for reasons beyond my ken) would not sync on a 3db target .... though not seen this fault for a few years now.

In absence of any further posts from the OP I guess we'll never know. My opening reply was just a hunch based on a clearly very short line.

Fair enough. I knew ISPs could change the target SNR on ADSL but didn't realise DLM was setup to do it automatically - maybe it was after I moved to FTTC.

My point however being that realmadrid did not specify BTW circuits. Which on ADSL2+ are a minority of the connections. As opposed to FTTC where 100% are Openreach.

Still being pedantic, but that seems to be par for the course. Why did I need to specify BTW circuits, it was a general comment and nothing to do with all FTTC circuits being BTOR, also I wonder how you could prove it is for a minority of ADSL2+ circuits?

What reading EXACTLY do you need from my router - a Netgear 3300 I think,

That requires a manual intervention. BT does it automatically and if your line then becomes unstable it will revert to 6dB.

Zarjaz appears to have been correct. Your Noise Margin (SNR) at 2.6 suggests you are now on a stable connection with a 3dB target. If you monitor for a day or two you will see the 2.6 figure increase to 3dB or maybe a little more, then drop back down to 2,.6 or so. Then repeat on a 24 hour cycle!

If the line is erroring heavily now it may drop back to its original speed ...

Billion Router 8800NL has a feature for ADSL2+ target SNR tweak on it. It's work well on ADSL2+.

I used to tweak my line on ADSL2+ well back to 2012-2014 force the exchange to reduced SNR target to 1.5dB and gained on the sync rate @ 17359k on my Line Attenuation of 32dB.

It is a BT wholesale service I think, though Supanet (or Supatel their parent company) claim to use some of their own links - I'm not sure how that works though.
But when I previously checked my router settings, the connection speed that is now 24512, was about 22000.
I wonder if the very hot weather has had anything to do with it? Though it is cooler now & we had a lot of rain 2 nights ago.

I have had the odd 404 instead of Google, when I initially go on the net - but for the most part, it is solid - pretty good for £3.99 a month !
It seems that Internexus, is the actual company behind Supanet - nice thing is they do not censor the net - so they say!

An upstream sync of 1022Kbps with a 9.9db SNRM also suggests a resold TTB (TalkTalk Business) service.

I Pay the annual BT saver fee. & keep use of the phone to evenings & weekends!
BTW, I live very close to the phone exchange - about a 2min walk.
