TP Link Archer T9UH

Yesterday I just brought a new wireless adapter to plugged into my pc computer via USB 3.0 port. My VDSL router are TP Link AC2600 Wireless Gigabit VDSL/ADSL Modem Router. Set at 2.4GHz at 289Mbps @ 20MHz and set at 5GHz at 600Mbps @ 40MHz.

Adapter are AC 1900 High Gain Wireless Dual Band USB 3.0 Adapter (Model Archer T9UH) priced at £32.99 at PCWorld.

PC computer was reading 2.4GHz @ 289Mbps link speed and 5GHz @ 600Mbps link speed.

The speed on ethernet lan port on my pc was 75/18 direct to router.

The speed on USB 3.0 wireless adapter on my pc was 76/19.

I have to say the wireless speed on 5GHz was impressed as the speed always stay above 75/18 to 76/19 with no drop out. No need ethernet cable lay around.

What was your setup before?

FYI 40Mhz at 2.4Ghz can be problematic, so you may need to fallback to 20Mhz especially if you are in a dense environment. You end up using a large chunk of all available spectrum & hence the interference with neighbours is much higher. 5Ghz is much better for this.

@5Ghz in my home I find zero reason to ever use a wire, I get 400Mbps over internal file transfers using the BT Smarthub which is AC2600 also & a macbook pro retina.

U are correct there my mistake as I have check the router setting under wireless:

Currently:
2.4GHz was set at 20MHz (Link Speed @ 289Mbps)
5GHz was set at 40MHz (Link Speed @ 600Mbps)

I have now re-edited to re-corrected it.

I was setup on Billion 8800NL and Plusnet Hub One before. Both are awful in wireless very poor overall.

But, Billion router are the best VDSL modem with loads of statistics on the line but TP Link Router is very poor limit on the VDSL statistics.

I look forward to your views on the 88U, i have been looking at one of these as a replacement for the BT smart hub. Im very interested in how far away you can get a good quality signal from it in a real world enviroment and how reliable the media capabilitys are.

That's an excellent choice. I also have the PCE-AC88 desktop PCI adaptor and get the max wireless link speeds of 1.7gbps when paired with my Netgear X10 router and easily see wireless speedtests of 310/30 Mbps on my FTTP connection. However you can get even higher wireless links rates when paired with a 4x4 Asus router, you should be seeing around 2.1Gbps in the above combo. Both the PCE-AC88 and DSL-AC88U support 1024 QAM modulation hence the high wireless speeds.

However......as good as Asus routers are (especially their standalone versions) they usually come with bugs galore when first released, so I hope the firmware on the DSL-AC88U is fairly stable now.

Edit: I should add that when using the Asus PCI adaptor, make sure you use the supplied external antenna mount, otherwise connecting the antennas directly to the card will give you lower link rates.

Why?

Do you really notice any difference between one router and another? I was until a couple of days ago still using the Plusnet Hub Zero connected to my BTOR modem, true I mainly use wired connections, this computer is connected using TV powerplugs. I had to change the router to my old TP-link TL-WR1043ND as my plusnet router seem to have gone belly up, but it work and I doubt getting a newer router will make much difference.
I can understand if someone is having a problem wi-fi, that a new router with more modern Wi-fi may work better, but from what I have seen of the 5Ghz band, sometimes it is more hassle than it is worth. Paying nearly £200 for a router is way over the top and I do wonder how you can afford it, unless you are working now.

The Asus is way over the top for most home users.,

Plusnet one hub has known issues on 5ghz btw. Throughout is capped around 30Mbps after multiple days uptime.
