My garden needs dug up for FTTP?

I ordered BT Infinity FTTP, and this morning randomly at 9am an Openreach guy arrived. He checked out my phone socket etc and said no good, I'm gonna have to go through the garden and lift slabs at the front of the house, install a box in the front garden and then drill through the wall and install another box. He said he would be in touch.

I can't picture this at all, by the talks of him I am gonna have a random box just sitting in my garden about 1 ft away from the door.

Do any of you guys know what I am on about? Can this box not be hidden underground or something? It's gonna be an eyesore if nothing else.

Probably the customer splice point, a small wall mounted box that houses connection between the external and internal fibre

Yes thats what he mentioned. The way this guy explained it is this thing is just stuck in my front garden, he then lifts a slab at the front door and runs a cable under it into the house. Surely you just can't leave this randomly in the front garden for the kids to constantly trip over?

This is partly correct.

Like witchunt has said its most probably the CSP (Customer Splice Point) where the fibre from the hardware in the chamber by your phone pole if you have one then to your wall of your home.

The fibre then goes into the CSP where it is joint to another fibre going through your wall where it will be connected to the ONT (Fibre Modem) inside your home.

You are aware you can choose from a range of CSP Box colours, I think there a Grey, Brown and White, there might be more, but I have only seen those colours.

I chose the one with the nearest colour that matched the brickwork of our house wall.

You can also tell them where you would like the CSP Box to be placed, within reason that is.

I also asked them to place mine the other side of our bay window due to I wanted the internal hardware that side because of the power socket was that side and it would be easier for the routing of the network cable.

So where you said the BT Engineer said that they would have to dig up / lift slabs etc in your front garden, I assume you have no Phone Pole and everything is under ground?

If so this part might be true if there is not enough room for the fibre cable to be blown down.

But you can still choose the colour of the CSP Box.

Yes everything is underground.

Going by the info in your other thread you appear to live in a new build property. In that case they shouldn't need to dig up anything, they will use the existing underground ducts to feed the fibre for FTTP.

My property is older than your's ( ~ 9 years) yet when they installed FTTP recently nothing at all was dug up and my lawn remained untouched... otherwise missus would have gone bananas LOL

Nice tidy job that.

Its a shame your house wasn't prepared for FTTP like other plots on your estate before you moved in, in that case the grey box (CSP) would have been installed internally and all fibre cabling would have been hidden behind walls. But at least you managed to order native FTTP in the end
