This is the part that concerns me. 2 black wires? Where have they come from?
Which is why I requested photos.

I am assuming the cables are very old, the house is 1895 and the window where the junction box is has not moved for quite some time as I have photos from previous sales of the house and the junction box is their so that takes it back at least 30+ years.

Having looked on a few websites there are screw terminal NTE5 boxes but most have orange cables coming in.

This is why I have posted here as I wanted to make sure it sounded right, but I have seen the joint box joining the black cables onto the internal coloured wiring which I have seen in other very old installs.

And after all that NOWTV have just done a line test and there is a fault on the phone line not the fibre. So engineer visit is arranged and they eventually agreed to sending they job to openreach once the line is fixed. So for now it looks like I won't need to touch this myself.

The cables are getting moved though even if I have to do this myself.
I can't put our entire renovation project on hold just because NOWTV don't want to get involved with openreach.

I am likely switching to Virgin next year so its only temporary.

I think that you are not supposed to do this yourself.

You could however buy a master socket with a filtered face plate on ebay.

If the two black wires are a cable with single insulation then you may find that it is thicker than the wires + first layer of insulation in a double insulated cable. If that is the case, you may find it prudent to remove the insulation before you try to punch the cable down onto the master socket back plate. Make sure you avoid shorting the cables together.

Any extension sockets should be attached to the filtered face plate and should not be an old master sockets.

It's a basic request, shocking really that Sky (NOWTV) cant figure it out... BT have done this for me btw in about 10 mins of asking.

A BT80 has screw terminals A and B inputs and an IDC for the output.

Use this guy's website http://www.mymatevince.com/ He's a telephone engineer. Also has a load of useful videos showing you how to do stuff cabling, master sockets etc.

Helped me a load having someone demo it and then do it myself.
